I had a wonderful opportunity this last weekend to provide music and entertainment for one of my good friends from my neighborhood. Her name is Samantha (Sammy) and she is a wonderful girl. Her and her wonderful husband got married in the Mt. Timpanogas Temple and then had what they thought was going to be a small reception at the Mt. Timpanogas Park up Provo Canyon. They told me in our pre-wedding conference that they invited about 150 people... I swear there was WAY more than that there. It felt like there were that many just on the dance floor! We had a couple of concerns going into the big day: 1. We knew that at LDS weddings, people don't tend to dance, and 2. We worried people would start leaving before the dance started. Knowing this, we decided it would be a good idea to start the dancing and festivities early, about halfway through the event. What a good choice! It was almost as if you could feel the exact moment when people were feeling the urge to say their goodbyes, the music started, the cake was ready to be cut, and we moved right into the first/last dances. People stayed!!! People Danced!!! People loved it!!! Both of the concerns were instantly diffused.
Something is to be said about good planning, good timing and a great DJ to get the flow of the night going! Don't trust that to some family member, friend (unless you know he's a DJ, like me), or some random DJ. Make sure that your event flows smoothly by picking an experienced musician or DJ! Congrats to DJ & Sammy!!! Best of luck to you guys and we loved being there with you on your very special and memorable evening!
